The UKBGF Tour consists of a series of the most prestigious events around the UK. They are a mixture of single- and double-elimination tournaments as well as two-stage Swiss/knockout events. Each event awards points to UKBGF members that accumulate over the course of the year, rewarding consistently good performance. The scoring has been designed to reflect the difficulty of winning each event, and not penalise anyone for receiving (or not receiving) byes. Our ultimate Tour winner will not be able to sit back on an early lead gained by a couple of big wins; on the other hand, simply attending every event will also not be enough…
Event scoring:
The points awarded for each position are listed below, based on 64 entrants. Tournaments with fewer than 64 entrants have their points reduced on a pro-rata basis. Players only score the greater of the Main and Consolation score.

Event scoring: One stage double-elimination with progressive consolation
The numbers in double-eliminations may seem unfamiliar – but these correspond to the various rounds in the Fighters where players are eliminated; each round you win in the Main means you drop into the Fighters two rounds later when you eventually lose for the first time.
No Consolation points are awarded as Double Elimination already provides players with a second scoring opportunity.
Event scoring: One stage single-elimination with progressive consolation
When there is a progressive consolation following on from the main single-elimination tournament, this qualifies for points at two rounds prior to the equivalent in the main tournament, so the consolation winner scores the same as the main losing semi-finalists.
Event scoring: Two-stage events
Some events involve two stages – typically day 1 is a qualification format for a knockout on day 2 (16 or 32 players). Scoring will follow the pattern above for the second stage, including any consolation, and those who fail to survive the first stage will be treated as though they had been knocked out in a qualifying “round”.
Other formats:
“World Cup” style tournaments, with a group stage followed by a knockout for group leaders, will score the same as a single elimination for those who reach the knockout stage; points for those going out in the groups will depend on the number and size of groups and will be announced when we know the eventual event structure.
Tour totals
Your final score for the Tour is simply the total of your best event scores from five of the events on the Tour. Of course you can compete as many times as you like; if you played more than 5 your worst scores would be dropped, and if you played less than 5 then you would get zero for the “missing” ones.
Intermediate / Advanced divisions
There is a separate Intermediate Tour – scored exactly the same as the main Tour, but participants will need to be eligible for Intermediate flight entry and play a minimum of two tour events, including at least one of the five Intermediate tour events (London, UK Open, Ealing Intermediates, North West Intermediates, Bristol). These events are scored on the basis of 32 entrants, not 64 as in the main Tour.
(The previously published eligibility rule for the Intermediate Tour required qualifiers to have entered at least two of the four Intermediate events which were originally announced, but this has been relaxed in order not to present a geographical disadvantage to players in some regions of the UK.)
What doesn’t count
Points are awarded for the main tournament at each event. They are not awarded for side events such as jackpots, SpeedGammon or minor consolations. They are also not awarded for Beginners.
Eligibility
Points are awarded to all participants in the relevant tournament who are UKBGF members at the close of registration. Points will not be awarded restrospectively to participants who subsequently join, or renew a lapsed membership.
