For those of you expecting to participate in any part of the new and exciting 2020 UKBGF Tour please note a number of changes to this year’s event.
Firstly, we have two brand new intermediate-only events keeping the total number of Intermediate flight tournaments at five for 2020. The UKBGF are proud and keen to support backgammon at all levels and hope the Intermediate division continues to go from strength to strength with the Intermediate Tour and the 16 places provided to UKBGF members at the annual Tour Winners Invitational (TWI) Finals held in January.
Another change in this division is that the new ratings level for Intermediate players is now 1600, based on an average of the ends of the three months at the end of 2019. The player eligibility list which you can find here is the definitive list for 2020 division qualification.
Will all players and Tour TDs please note: The list provided is for Masters/Open divisions and if your name appears on this list you are not eligible to play in an intermediate division Tour events in 2020. This is to ensure fairness at all tour events and the integrity of both divisions of the UKGBF tour and TWI qualification.
Finally, in the Intermediate division only, it has been decided to slightly alter the tour scoring to now be based on 32 entrants rather than the previous 64. This is to ensure that scoring more fairly reflects multiple results rather than being dominated by one or two larger events. (A similar decision was made for the Masters division recently).
Changes in the Masters division are largely based on entrants and event length. For consistency, it was decided to keep tour events to 64+ player minimum 2 day tournaments. These criteria are relaxed for Intermediate events with encouragement and growth of backgammon at the forefront of our thinking.
Some flexibility remains within tournament format (Swiss, Knockout, Double Elimination etc) and entry fees are left to the discretion of tournament directors who we hope will always have their players interests in mind when making these decisions. This was decided with the idea of catering, as much as possible, for ALL player types.
A new Midlands Open for 2020 enters the fray and we wish it, along with all other tournaments (tour or otherwise) every success.
We welcome any new applications for the 2021 UKBGF Tour in particular from TD’s considering 1 day Intermediate events. Please send any requests to firstname.lastname@example.org
Wishing you all an enjoyable backgammon year.
