December saw the final two events on the 2019 Tour. First of all there was the BMAB Christmas tournament – normally BMAB events are truncated round robins where your opponents are known from the start; because this was a special one for the tour the format changed somewhat to be a five-round Swiss with room for 32 players, matches lengthened to 13 points to give the same amount of play as a normal BMAB weekend, essentially guaranteeing a straight knockout for the top place and a final against one other undefeated player in the fifth round. BMAB #20, December 2018 – a new era begins
BMAB UK reached the milestone of 20 tournaments this weekend. However, this achievement was tempered by the very sad news that founder and regular TD Rick Janowski would not be able to be with us.

The UK has another Grandmaster … and Team UK reach another final

Rick Janowski writes:
I have the greatest pleasure in announcing that Sebastian Wilkinson, of the UK, has been awarded the prestigious title of Grandmaster (Class 3), following his devastatingly brilliant performance at the recent BMAB Ranking Tournament at Long-Eaton, UK. He aggregated an astonishing PR score of 2.72 in the two-day event comprising six 11-point matches. This score is the greatest achieved over a 2-day event by a clear margin.
Mochy – Backgammon’s 3-Sigma King
Since the implementation of BMAB three years ago, Mochy has maintained an incredible level of play, never letting his PR average fall below 2.90. More recently he has pushed his performance rating to reach an astonishing level of 2.40 measured over 300 experience points, not only achieving the title of Super Grandmaster, but with a clear margin of 0.10 below the 2.50 benchmark.
Another milestone for Captain Tim
Rick Janowski writes:
UKBGF Team Captain Tim Cross is awarded a Master (Class 1) Title
I have the great pleasure in announcing that Tim Cross has been awarded the title of Master (Class 1) by virtue of his excellent performances at two recent BMAB-Partnered tournaments held in the UK, the BIBA British Open and the St Albans Open. This award is an upgrade from Tim’s previous Master (Class 2) title and takes him to 4th position in the BMAB (UK) Ranking List.
