64 players from Ireland, the UK, Denmark, Norway and even further afield gathered at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire earlier this month for the 25th Irish Open.
Announcing: The London Open 2017
I am delighted to announce that the 2017 London Open backgammon tournament will take place from 26th-28th May at Henrietta Barnett School in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London NW11. The M1 is just 10 minutes away by car, and there is free on street parking readily available in the area. So with good public transport links nearby (Golders Green station is less than 15 minutes by tube from Euston and is also a stop on the air coach links from Stansted and Luton) everyone should find it easy to get to, whatever their means of transport.
Accommodation for The London Open – stay with a backgammon player!
With the London Open just 5 weeks away, I guess many of you are still pondering whether or not to attend the tournament, and doubtless are weighing up the cost of a few days in the capital. While the venue is not so central as to approach Park Lane prices, hotel costs can still be daunting. Consequently, I have made it my task to find some cheaper options for you.
Last year, as some of you may remember, I began a “stay with me” initiative. I offered to put up a backgammon player attending the London Open and asked others to do the same. In the end, it was all a bit late in the day, and only one person was able to take advantage of this scheme. This year, I have set the ball rolling a little earlier, and can offer several places with players living in the London area. Some of these are free, some will make an Airbnb type charge (see below) of up to £30 per night.
